Absolute References

Absolute references ensure that a formula always points to the same cell, even when copied or moved. This helps maintain consistent calculations across your workbook.

Syntax for absolute reference
  • To set an absolute reference use the $ before the row and column of a cell reference

CellA1becomes$A$1; RangeA1:A10becomes$A$1:$A$10

This technique is important to use when you want to compose a formula that involves a range of data referenced against a set data point.
